Where is the best location in US to observe aurora?

And when is the best time? During summer? Winter? Perhaps in between? I understand those things are unpredictable but I would like to see my children experience its beauty.|||I have seen it as far south as the Gorge in the State of Washington but that is rare I would think. Central to Northern British Columbia and Alaska would be the best chance of seeing it.|||The closer to the magnetic north pole, the better. Consider going into Canada rather than Alaska, it'll be cheaper and there are cities to visit in the daytime. The aurora borealis most often occurs from September to October and from March to April|||The aurora is actually not located over one regular spot it moves depending on solar activity. You can find out where it is right now at this link http://www.space.com/spacewatch/aurora_c鈥?/a>|||alaska|||The north slope of Alaska though not a very good place to bring Children. You get a much dimmer view of it in the lower 48

'96 Olds Aurora with electrical problems, about how much is it going to cost for repairs?

We just had the fuel pump replaced, new battery, and tune up, and now the mechanic is saying it needs to go to an electrical mechanic.|||It depends on what is wrong with it, a good place to look for answers and ask questions would be the Aurora Club of North America forums. There are people on there that can answer just about any question have have about your Aurora.|||It will depend on what is wrong with and how many hours it will take to fix it, just ask them how much the diagnosis will cost first and then go from there..

How does the Aurora Borealis work?

It's such a beautiful phenomenon, but what conditions are necessary for it to manifest?|||Both the southern and northern lights are caused by something called the 'Van Allen Belt', this is where high energy particles get trapped within the Earths magnetic field and are pulled towards the ppoles - depending if the particle if +ve or -vely charged.

They release photons due to striking the upper atmosphere, which then fluoresce.

The outer belt consists mainly of high energy electrons and the inner belt consists of mainly protons.

See link for more info....

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Van_Allen_r鈥?/a>|||The most recent NASA mission was to launch sattelites to study the Aurora. See website.|||If i didn't remeber wrongly, it is due to the ring ionosphere orbiting around earth, where ions move at high velocity within the orbital. At the north pole, there is a part where the path of orbital crosses the sky...ions from outer space enter the sky and the high energy ions bombard the molecules in the sky, knocking out electrons. The color is produced when electrons combine with anions again, where photon is released in the process...

How are The aurora borealis connected to light?

Hi, do you know? And how are the colours created? Thanks!|||I believe they are gases that come off the earth and hit the temperature change. Like any gas it displays different colors. I am not a scientist so I couldn't tell you the scientific reason for that.

How do you become a character at a Disneyland theme park? Like Cinderella or Aurora?

I think I very much would like to be a character at a Disneyland theme park. However, it is ridiculously hard to find information about it online... At least for me!!

Thanks a ton!|||Disney has a career hotline and a casting center at all their locations.. you can take a look on their website and give them a quick call to set up an interview time. Can you see the aurora borealis everyday?

My family is going to Alaska and i really wanna see the aurora borealis (is it even in alaska?)

can you see it everynight? what cities can you see it in?|||I live in Alaska, and have seen the light many many times. The Aurora could happen at any time, but it needs to be dark for you to see them. So in summer you will not be seeing the Aurora.

Nighttime in the winter is the ideal time to see them.

In winter you can see them from any part of the state, but the show will be better the farther you are from town and the electric lights of town.

Is there a doctor who will prescribe meridia in Aurora, CO?

I'm trying to lose weight and the only thing that has worked for me in the past is Meridia. I just moved to Aurora, CO from NYC and it seems like I cant find a doctor that accepts health insurance and could prescribe Meridia. (they are all out of pocket practices) can anybody help?|||I love meridia. In 3 months, with out doing 1 bit of exercise, I lost 22lbs. I know if I would have walked a couple of days a week or some little bit of exercise, I would have lost more weight, but I think that's pretty good for not doing anything. Unfortunately, I do not know who might prescribe meridia/reductil in Aurora, CO. I am in Springfield, MO and I also do not have any prescription for meridia, I was never prescribed it. But I purchase meridia/reductil online with reliable overseas pharmacy, http://www.trustgeneric.com/prices.php?aff_id=73755%26amp;sub=14 It is rather expensive, but I do not wanna quit. I want to lose another 48 pounds. Good luck.

Do you believe Aurora was ever conceived?

Do you believe that the mysterious Aurora aircraft was ever built?

Why or why not?

I am fascinated with this particular aircraft.

Thanks and have a great christmas!|||yes. or atleast something like it, or better. the SR-71 was kept hidden for god knows how many years, likewise the F-117 and the B-2, so i think the aurora is just another thing to the list. the technology is there, the specific mission parameters exist for there to be a necessity for this aircraft. whether its manned or unmanned is debatable, but i believe it exists.

people think, mach 5+? impossible....well....no, we can easilly do it. sustained hypersonic is a challenge, but there is still popular belief that the SR-71 is alot higher than the published and estimated mach 3. something that lockheed claim. US military air traffic controllers have worked out that to do some legs that they have controlled, the aircraft must have been going atleast mach 4 or more. hydrogen pulse detonation engines exist, they are not refined enough for the general military or civilian use, but i think a few boffins at lockheed skunk works can solve any problems that it might have (if it is even powered by PDEs). space skipping is a theory of remaining undetected, and keeping up hypersonic speeds, super long range and keeping heat on the aircraft surface to a minimum. put in short, the things we dream up, that we think cant exist, most likely can and do exist with the government, but are hidden from the public eyes to stop the enemy finding out about this technology, and developing counter weapons. SR-71, who would have thought we can fly at 80,000ft faster than mach 3 for a decent range. it existed. who would have thought that one day, a B-2 or F-117 could be near invisible to radar? it existed. you get where im going ;)|||Nope I think the costs were too high so the DOD canceled project Aurora . I think It's classified and data is available but sparse .|||I honestly don't really care if it ever existed

(you asked)|||That's classified.|||Nope. Just a cover for other black projects.

Is it possible to hardnes the power of the Aurora Borealis coming to earth and convert to energy for reuse?

is it possible to hardnes the power of the Aurora Borealis coming to earth and convert to energy for reuse

maybe we can use it to charge up energy vechiles than using our own PG and E ?|||In theory you could. Anyone who has a large antenna farm has to deal with significant amounts of power that get combed out of the sky by the towers and the antenna arrays. Quebec had their portion of the grid fail due to a Coronal Mass Ejection that hit the earth square on, and produced some terrific aurora as well.

This type of energy is the real "Free energy." It is worth experimenting with, who knows- you might find the right combination to get it to work.|||I think that there are far more useful power sources that should be tapped before such a possibility should even be considered. Such a power source would be useless because it is more intermittent, unreliable and variable than even wind!

How often were you planning to use your electric car?

I just added this name to my favorite guilty pleasure girl name list, i love it, but I would NEVER use it for an actual child, well I wouldn鈥檛 ever use Emerlie, I would use Aurora as a middle name, though.

What is the differences between southern aurora and southern lights?

Is it the same thing or different?|||No differences, except in their location. If fact, most of the time active aurora borealis means active aurora australis, and vice versa. The only difference is that the south magnetic pole is much farther from human habitation than the north magnetic pole, so the aurora australis is mostly observed by the penguins.|||Same thing, just different terms. What do I set my camera to to get pictures of the Aurora Borealis?

It's northern lights season and I haven't ever been able to get pictures of them!!

I have a Kodak z730 and I would like to know if anyone knows what manual settings are best for catching the lights.

Thank you!|||Go to http://www.shutterbug.com and type 'aurora borealis' in the Search box. You'll pull up an article titled "The Mystery of the Aurora Borealis: Capturing Nature's Light Show" by Mike Endres in the April 2007 issue. You will definitely need a tripod.

Unfortunately, from looking at a review of your camera, its really not suited for taking pictures of the aurora. Your camera has either Aperture Priority or Shutter Priority, no Manual Mode, a minimum shutter speed of 64 seconds and a maximum ISO of 400.

|||i'm not quite familiar with your camera, and i'm not quite sure just how bright the aurora borealis is, but here's my ball field estimate:

iso 100 (so you don't have so much noise), f/7.8 or larger (i'm guessing 7.8 is your camera's max aperture) for a longer depth of field, and a 3-5 second shutter speed. you'll also have to set your camera on a tripod to keep it from shaking (although a rock, book or some other steady object would do).

don't forget to add a foreground element! good luck and happy shooting!|||Tripod, definitely.

From the review on dpreview, your max aperture is 4.8, so I guess go for that. 8.0 or 11.0 would be better, but this is what you've got to work with.

ISO 100 or 80.

If you have a full manual mode, play around with the exposure, starting at 10 seconds and going slower or faster from there. If you can set a delay, do that too so that you can press the button and get your hand away from the camera and tripod before the exposure starts; even a small amount of shake of your hand on the button could show up.

By the way, make sure your battery has a full charge.|||Go to the extremes.

1. Use a tripod.

2. If I understand correctly, your camera goes up to ISO 400 at full resolution or ISO 800 at reduced resolution. Try a few shots are each setting to see which works out best.

3. If I understand correctly, you camera will take pictures up to 64 seconds long. That's actually good for a small camera. Go with that and see how it works.

4. Your camera has the largest aperature at the lowest magnification so definitely take your pictures at low magnification.

The left turn signal, the one right next to the cornering light, is burned out. I have the correct bulb but I have no idea how to get in there to change it. Even looked through the owner's manual, nothing. Help would me much appreciated!|||Some lens covers are tricky. Don't take a chance in cracking it. Go to a pro and have it fixed correctly.|||Is there a white knob type thing on the top of the complete assembly? If so, turn it then push it either forward or back, if you look down and behind the assembly you will see that it's a sort of lock rod, you have to push that away in order to free it up then you should be able to loosen it enough to change the bulb out.

I ordered a Dell Alienware Aurora desktop and puolator is dropping it off.. How long about?

As you know i ordered the computer I CAN'T wait this thing is maxed lol, it said it was in transit to the U.S.A today it just got out of processing, i live in Canada Ontario how long about will it arrive?|||Call DELL and ask for a shipping tracking number. Travel: Is it easy to observe Aurora Bernoulis/Northern light in Lapland?

Is it easy to observe Aurora Bernoulis/Northern light in Lapland (Rovaniemi)?

I m planning for my trip in Finland in Dec. I wonder should I just walkaround myself to catch the Northern light or should I pay Euro100 per person to join those Northern light searching tour package?

Thanks!|||We have a small house at Saariselk盲, which isn't too far from Rovaniemi, and everytime I have been there for a week, or longer, I've always seen Aurora Borealis atleast once. So in my opinion it's a waste of money to pay for those tours, you just have to keep your eyes at the sky every night and you should see one.|||WHAT?... Euro 100 to see something you only need to step outside to see....

Sure you can see the Aurora Borealis in Lapland... anywhere near the artic circle works just fine.|||Scam.

Aurora Borealis.

Go outside at night look up to the north.

Pay me Euro 100.

How much can i get for my wrecked 1997 Oldsmobile Aurora at a junkyard?

The vehicle is heavily damaged in the front and rear. Front airbags deployed. Windshield is broken. Front driver's tire is off the wheel.|||Does it crank up %26amp; run good ? $100-250.

If not, $50-150.

Both prices depend on who tows or drives it in.|||Generally around $200|||100.00-150.00 if you deliver it....less if they have to pick it up....|||I totalled a Ford once.

Got $50 for that junk.

How often is the Aurora Borealis and when is it best visible?

This may be a dumb question but when it comes to space and etc.. I am uneducated. I live in Alberta,Canada So I am not in the center but im not on the coast. I was wondering when the next best possible time to see it is. Thanks|||Auroral activity depends on solar activity, and cannot be predicted except in a very general way. For the last year or two we have been at solar minimum and here have been no auroras. Solar activity is picking up and auroras will be more frequent. Northern Alberta is an excellent location for aurora.|||It's not possible to predict the exact time, date or location of the Aurora Borealis

Encase you're wondering, Aurora Borealis is the Sun's radiation which crashes on the magnetic field of the Earth at the North Pole and is moving southward at a high speed.|||As the previous poster mentioned, the northern part of your province is a good place to see it. It's best seen on winter nights because they are long and aren't likely to be washed out by sunlight like they would be in the summer.

Has anyone ever encountered aurora (northern lights) while flying?

not in my plane, but saw it once while flying commercial. The great circle route takes you pretty close to the pole. It was the highlight of the flight for everyone. Everybody was crowding the windows on the right side. The pilots even turned off the cabin lights so we can all bask in the beautiful green-ish light that was illuminating the cabin slightly. It was great. Glad I was lucky enough to see it from a plane.|||Yes, flying a B52 at high altitude at 2AM . Aurora was so bright we could read the checklist by it. St Elmo's Fire on the canopy and over the wings. Unforgettable.|||FYI, aurora can be north or south. Aurora Borealis is north, Aurora Australis is south.|||Yes. Sometimes in the seattle area you can see it even at lower altitudes (1,000' AGL)|||No, but I saw it plenty of times while living in Anchorage.|||Yup, sure have.|||No,but that must be really something to see.|||im jealous|||no not ever|||what is it like i've never seen an Aura in my life

Should i put more money in a 95 aurora?

Like 2 years ago my girl bought a 95 aurora for 3000. Now it has bad head gasket and has been sitting for 6 months because we didnt want to pay for it. Now that the lease is up on are other car should we fix the aurora or get rid of it and buy another car. The cars has 140000 mile on it.|||You probably couldn't get a comparable car for what it would cost to repair the one you already have, so that argues for fixing the Aurora.|||After 6 months, water or coolant has probably got into the crankcase, so no, I'd part it out. They weren't a very good car to start with, so resale is poor also.

Where are the battery terminals in a 1998 Oldsmobile Aurora? Trying to jump start my car.?

I know the battery is under the seat, but there are supposed to be terminals under the hood. Where?|||Your battery is underneath a case on the driver's side/front of the engine compartment. The positive terminal should have a red cap which you can flip back exposing a nut and bolt with a wire connector attached. This is where the red booster cable end should be attached. To attach the black cable you must find a metal area that is grounded to the body such as a strut mount or fender bolt.|||If you have the hood open there is a red cover just to the left of the engine, open the cover and that's the positive terminal. Negative get grounded to the engine.|||Negative is grounded to the FRAME not the engine. Usually there's a sticker that say's "ground" on the frame somewhere; ground it there.

GM usually has a positive post through the fuse box cover it has a red cap.|||There should be a red cap on towards the passanger or drivers side strut tower (by the fender) remove the cap hook the positve side to it and find a good ground to hook the negative side to.|||The battery terminals are on the battery, + stamped on the battery means Hot post, and - means

negative or ground post ! Do not cross them !

Can I reprogram the computer in a 1995 Oldsmobile Aurora to accept another differential ratio?

One transaxle is 3.42:1. The other ratio is 3.71:1. They are both factory options.|||You will have to have a dealer tech program the vin of another car with matching ratio or purchase a reman pcm with programming already installed that is if the car is obd-2 which means it does not have a replacable prom. also the ratio difference will matter because 4T80-E trans have input and output speed sensors .the computer will think the trans is slipping, because of ratio change.done been there before.|||It should not make a difference the compiutyer should comp for the new transaxle. there is a possibility though that you may have to change the pins, or the loom.

What wattage is the default power supply of Alienware Aurora?

I plan to upgrade it quite a bit after buying it. Another hd 5870 and 4 extra gigs of RAM. Oh and what is the default cooler?|||It is 875 watts. It has Alienware High-Performance Liquid Cooling.|||maybe and no -.-

you have already got the default wattage so i will explain the maybe and no

why add more graphics cards AFTER YOU BUY IT. as soon as you take the side off the case you loose warranty with pre built computers. the is an option for crossfired 5870s already. tick it

now RAM. you cant simply add 4 more gigs. RAM has moved on from the era in which you could just add sticks whenever. the is now dual and tri channel ram. i think the aurora comes with i7 and 6 gigs of tri channel ram. the way this works you cant just add another, apart fromt hat why would you want too, 64 bit windows 7 with any game maxed out barely goes over 3 gigs in use, you wont make your computer any faster. infact if you add more ram you will make it slower if not done right.

When do the Aurora Borealis (northern lights) most vividly and frequently occur?

I'm planning a trip to northern Canada and Alaska and one of the things I'd most like to see are the northern lights. However, I can't seem to find any solid info on a time of year when they are most likely to be seen or when they would be the most vivid. What would the best time of year to travel to Alaska/Canada to see them?|||The aurora is formed when charged particles (electrons and protons) are guided by the Earth's magnetic field into the atmosphere near the poles. When these particles collide with atoms and molecules of the upper atmosphere, primarily oxygen and nitrogen, some of the energy in these collisions is transformed into the visible light that characterizes the aurora.

When there is a disturbance on the sun, such as a solar flare or coronal mass ejection, it can produce a disturbance in the solar wind. This in turn will cause a disturbance in the balance between the solar wind and Earth's magnetic field. As a result, electrons and protons are accelerated within the magnetosphere.

WHEN DO THEY OCCUR?

The aurora is a near daily occurrence somewhere on Earth and there is almost always an aurora in the sky (both day and night, but in the daytime it is out-shined by sunlight). However, the following factors can increase your chance of seeing them:

Time of Day: Because the intensity of the light in an aurora is low, it can only be seen at night. Furthermore, the most active and brilliant displays usually occur near midnight. Therefore, the best time to observe the aurora is, on average, between 11 p.m. and 2 a.m.

Season: In the northern hemisphere, the best time to view an aurora is during the winter. At latitudes where auroras are common, it is typically light all night in the summer—so you rarely have warm weather and a good aurora. Furthermore, in most polar regions, the weather tends to be clear during the middle of winter—so often the best time to see an aurora is also the coldest.

Sun Rotation: It takes the sun 27 days to rotate one time around its axis, so 27 days after an aurora display, the active region on the sun that caused the aurora will face Earth again. Although solar activity in that region on the sun might have decreased in the mean time, there is still a greater chance of aurora 27 days after the last period of increased auroral activity.

Solar Activity: Auroral activity also correlates with the activity of the sun, which changes according to an 11-year solar cycle. In general, the more active the sun, the greater the number of auroras. Thus, auroral displays are more likely around the time of the solar maximum (when solar activity is high). Aurora displays remain frequent and strong for several years around solar maximum. During solar maximum, the auroras are not only more frequent and more active, but they also can come further south away from the poles (it should be noted, however, that bright and active auroras can be observed at any time during the solar cycle).

Weather, the full moon, and light pollution also affect your ability to see aurora. Your best bet for seeing aurora is to get as close as you can to the position of the auroral oval, and as far away as you can from sources of artificial light and overcast skies. Tips on viewing the aurora can be found at NOAA's Space Environment Center.|||Northern (ans southern) lights are caused by storms on the sun sending charges particles of matter through space. When they hit the earth's Magnetic Field the cause a "glow".

The Northern Lights are NOT seasonal, and can occur at any time of the year, and are pretty much unpredictable, UNLESS you know someone who "watches" the sun. like an astrophysicist. SOMETIME they can tell when the sun is going to "erupt", and possibly predict northern lights.

So, no one can tell you "what time of year" is best to see them -- because they don't work that way.|||The lights are always there, just not visible during daylight. Which rules out the summertime. Fairbanks is the best place to catch them because it's usually over Fairbanks a greater percentage of the time (the band moves)

See this link for "solid info"|||They would be most vivid during an electromagnetic storm on the sun. Also, you would have to go in the winter during the long nights there, the aurora usually is poorly visible in the day|||i believe year around but only visible at the very north most part of the earth, probably only above artic circle...

How does the Aurora affect radio wave transmissions?

I heard that there's a lot of radio interference during geomagnetic storms - does anyone have information on why this is exactly?|||charged particles from sun interact with earths magnetic field and create aurora

also they affect the ionosphere above earth which reflects short wave radio signals.

Is the name Aurora too weird of a name to give a child?

My husband and I are planning on starting a family at some point and I like the name Aurora. I just was wondering if it is too weird or out there for a child to have to deal with.|||I really like it. It is sophisticated for a woman, and the nickname 'Rory' is cute for a little girl.

I also don't think that this name will date a child to a certain era. Many names in the past such as Jennifer, are able to be dated to a certain decade, whereas Aurora will never be a name that is considered as outdated.

It's meaning of 'Dawn' is beautiful as well, particularly if both parents prefer Dawn to Sunset etc.

I do think you might encounter some pronounciation problems with this name. Also, depending on where you live, it may be pronounced differently. To combat this problem, may I suggest the name Aurelia instead? I think it is generally an easier name for people to say, and probably more common as well.

I think that it is a unique name, and it will definetely stand out in the crowd amongst all of the children named Ashlee, Ava or Emily.

I think however, that it may be a good idea for you to give your child a more common middle name. If your child doesn't like the idea of having a unique name, she may like the idea of having a middle name to fall back on. I think Aurora Josephine is a gorgeous combination.|||cute name...but several pornstars have used it.|||I know 3 people named Aurora and I think it's a beautiful name. The only problem I would see with it is if your husband doesn't like it, but if it's a name you both like, go for it.|||I went to school with a girl named Aurora. They called her "Rory". Not bad, unless you had trouble with pronouncing "r's". Then it sounded awful. You wouldn't believe how many people have that trouble.|||I think Aurora is a beautiful name, and don't think it will cause a problem, It sounds special.|||I would reconsider. I think of the pornstar Aurora Snow. Although she is gorgeous, you probably dont want people thinking about that when they hear your daughters name.|||not at all...i dont know how familiar you are with disney but sleeping beauties name is Aurora ...who was secretly a princess!...It is a beautiful name.|||i really like it. but i think it would be hard to shorten or get any endearing nick names from though. all im coming up with is hey orr, or hey ra, or hey ra ra. not really working is it?|||no its like a hispanic name its really pretty and its not common|||No it is not weird, but you know they had a car called that just a few years ago.|||I knew a girl named aurora, her and her mom both got beat up by the same girl in the same day, but its not a bad name.|||no i was going to name my daughter that but i had 2 boys|||We were going to name our daughter that, but hubby couldn't spell it...... LOL

He liked Aurora Borealis. We settled for Emily Elizabeth!|||Absolutely not. It's a beautiful name. Has a lot of meaning too. Much better than some other "choice" names I've heard out there.|||No. Most women named Aurora that I know are of Hispanic or Philipino decent.|||I think it's beautiful, and don't worry about what others think of the name you choose. If you do that you'll never find a name that everyone agrees with. My husband and I chose our boy and girl baby name the week we found out we were going to have a baby. We never told a soul until he was born...there was no complaining or opinions from anyone...it was wonderful, and fun!

Good luck!|||No, I think it is cute and unique. Just think that not many little girls will have that name so your future daughter will be distinguishable from all the little girls named Ashley,or whatever names that people deem really popular now.|||No, I knew a girl with that name and they called her Rory. It's a pretty name.|||No, I think if you like it, then it is your decision. I personally think it's cute %26amp; not as common as a lot of other names. True your child may not end up liking it, but you take that chance with a name like Ashley or Sarah too. It's the parents choice for the child's name.|||I guess not...|||I think that name is pretty. It makes me think of a Southern girl and also reminds me of Sleeping Beauty, remember? Princess Aurora. I also went to high school with an Aurora and she went by "Rori".|||I think it's pretty. It's unusual enough not to be common but not so extreme that people will have a hard time spelling it or pronouncing it.|||I like its pretty and not that common|||I like it, its a very unique name.

Ignore the ones who refered to the porn star having that name, no one is going to look at your baby and go "OMG she's named after this chick I seen in an XXX film!"|||It starts out sounding pretty but it also comes out sounding like:

A ROARER too. You have to be careful not to give your daughter a name that kids can mess with - they can be so cruel. A friend has a daughter named Sonora which, again, starts out sounding pretty until the other kids called her SNORER.|||nope it is a pretty cool name!|||no. a girl in my school is name aurora and she doesn't get picked on at all. and i really like that name.|||name him/her what ever you like.why you worry about others. people will accept anything after getting use to it. only thing you should like that name|||I think that is a beautiful name.|||PLEASE DONT NAME A CHILD THAT! she would get teased forever! its really corny!

What tires would be recommended on a Oldsmobile Aurora?

What tires would you recommend for a 1996 Oldsmobile Aurora. It came from the factory with Michelin MXV4 Energy P235/60VR16 and these tires are useless in winter for control/traction.|||michelin is way to expensive. you do get what you pay for but i would be just as happy with a nice set of goodyears.|||try going to the website www.tirerack.com. they have all kinds of tires, and they are rated. you can also call with questions. the prices are great, and they can be delivered to the service station of your choice!!|||235/60-16 See Discount Tire.com/South_Carolina .

Why does my 1996 oldsmobile aurora keep draning my battery and sometimes it wont start the car?

So problem i have is mutiple so the car wont start and keeps draining my battery, and ive had it recharged at autozone. when i turn the key i can here the engine click and rev up but nothing fully turning the car on. So what do i need to do? Do I go to autozone and see if i have a faulty alternator, new battery, or something else.|||First off, have the battery tested, to make sure it's still good. Second, have your alternator tested. If both of those are good, do you have anything plugged into the cigarette lighter (besides a lighter) that might be draining power? Failing all those, you may have a short somewhere.|||You might have started with a bad alternator that allowed the battery to drain, or it may have been because the battery is bad that it won't charge.

You can go through a ping pong effect because if you continue driving it after you get a jump start, you are stressing out both things.

Get the car started and take it to Autozone and they can check your battery, alternator and starter to figure out what is wrong.

Don't just change parts.|||I can grandstand why people take a car somewhere to have battery charged. Chargers are not expensive. Take car to battery depot, have the battery drop tested. This is very easy, they just put a drop meter across the terminals and read a dial. This will say if your battery is defunct. If battery is OK it will probably be alternator. This is tested in about 2 mins by garage. Does your car start if it is jump started, if so start with the battery.

I would start playing with the new name though over the summer before school starts, then people and friends will be used to it.. test it out a little|||I like Brit better. Plus, I think it's weird to change your name randomly through. I mean, there's always going to be those people who call you Brit to tick you off! And besides, I like your name!

How popular is the name Aurora, nowadays?

Also, what do you think of Aurora Meabh(Meabh is an Irish name pronounced mave)

Thanks for your answers.|||I would not say that Aurora is very now a days. But it is lovely and I love it with the nick name Rory. I think that Meabh is okay, I don't like it. But its not like anyone is really going to know the middle name. Think about it, how many people know your middle name. there is this apartment right next to the Hollywood Casino in downtown aurora that i want. some people told me not to get it cuz its a bad area but i am not sure. i have never really spent time in that area. anyone know?|||That area is not too great...it's not the worst but by it being right by the casino it has many different people coming in and out of the area. My parents live about 10 mins. away in North Aurora, that is a great area!|||I live in Plainfield, IL Some what near Aurora.

There is a lot of gangs there! But, they do have a nice side too...You just really need to go see for yourself and ask people who live there.|||Hon, downtown Aurora is what you make of it. It can be bad, it is almost completely Hispanic, but being careful is the word of the day. Don't go out at night or after dark and don't forget to lock all doors and windows and keep an alarm on windows and doors to allay any break-ins. I'd live there, but I already have a nice townhouse in North Aurora, near I-88 and the Outlet Mall, just off Farnsworth.|||Downtown Aurora looks nice during the day, but I would not want to live there. At night it is a not so nice place. Only a few blocks away are not so nice places day or night.|||downtown aurora is not that great,,,, there are gangs esp in south aurora, your best bet is looking for a place in NORTH aurora, batavia, geneva or naperville... these are more quiet places and still have things to offer.

Why is it bad luck to whistle at the Aurora Borealis?

l was watching a show the other day on tv and they mention an urban legend that the aurora borealis will come down and steal your soul or something like that if you whistle at it.

And l,m wondering if it,s true or just a myth.|||It's NOT an urban legend, it's an ancient legend of the Saami, Nenets, Inuit, and Aleut. If you whistle to the Northern Lights it draw them closer, they steal children, decapitate adults, the God of the Wilds lives in them and gets irritated with the lack of respect of being Whistled to come on command. Some believe the dead ancestors live in the Northern lights and will take you with them. The sound they produce is supposed to be the sounds of the dead walking or spirits walking.

Water in the trunk of an 2001 Oldsmobile Aurora?

I have a 2001 Oldsmoblie Aurora and everytime it rains or I go through a car wash watre somehow finds its way into my trunk and settles in the spare tire compartment. How can I fix this and how does it get in?|||Other than the obvious seal replacement, I would get a hose and test the trunk yourself. Spray the trunk (closed) lightly and see where the water goes into the trunk and where it just rolls off. Getting a closer look would give you a better idea of where your problem is coming from.

What month aurora borealis lights Adirondack Park?

What month and Day of the year I can see aurora borealis in the Adirondack Pack in Upstate New York.|||Aurora is simply not that predictable.

The aurora borealis, or northern lights, is caused by incoming material in the solar wind being attracted by the Earth's magnetic field. The excitation of the upper atmosphere causes moving glowing shapes to appear, sometimes brilliantly coloured.

The aurora is caused by solar activity, so is not stronger or weaker at any particular time of the year on Earth. It tends to be seen more often in the winter because the nights are longer in the winter, but in fact can be seen at any time of year. The aurora is strongest close to the Earth's magnetic poles. Because more people live close to the North Magnetic Pole (in the northeastern Canadian Arctic), the aurora borealis is more frequently observed than the aurora australis. We are currently at the minimum of the 11 year cycle of solar activity, so aurora is exceedingly rare anywhere on Earth.|||Hey there,

But the description of a supersonic, high-altitude aircraft with a triple con-trail and "wiggly exhaust" is plausibly that of a revolutionary US reconnaissance aircraft called the Aurora, capable of speeds between Mach 4 and Mach 6 (4100-6400km/h) and operating at altitudes between 30,000 and 60,000 metres for flights of 10,000km.

The Aurora is the reputed successor to the Lockheed鈥檚 SR71A "Blackbird" spyplane, mothballed by the US military in 1992 because of excessive costs. Where can I find a list of dates that the Aurora australis (aka southern lights) showed in Antartica?

South pole aurora, anything will do, it doesn't matter which station.|||The aurora australia is very common in Antarctica just as the aurora borealis is common in the Arctic. Where can I find meteor showers/aurora lights in scotland?

Where abouts in Scotland and when specifically should I go? August? I read somewhere that meteor showers/aurora lights are in Scotland in July/August but don't remember the source. Any help would be great. As would any other tips for seeing the aurora lights. Thanks|||Aurorae should be seen best in the northern sky, but get away from citys. I don't think there is a time of year for aurorae, just any clear night.

The Perseid meteor shower will peak around 11 August. From Scotland, after midnight, the place in the sky from which the meteors will appear to eminate will be in the northeastern or eastern quadrant (of course, the quadrant will move westward with time). There are other meteor showers, the Orionids (November, I think), the Quadrantids (January), the Leonids (November), for example.

As with the aurorae get as far from the city as possible. But remember that even though the meteors tend to eminate from some part of the sky they can be found anywhere in the sky; it is just the place in the sky from which their track seems to come.

Also, another tip: a lounge chair and blanket are handy when viewing meteors. You might be surprised how cool it can get at night out in the open, even in the late summer.

Try searching for terms such as 'meteor showers 2009' or 'annual meteor showers'. Heavens-above.com might have listings or alerts. Space.com has alerts, too. Good luck.|||Hey there,

Can Aurora Borealis and Aurora Australis occur simultaneously?

Knowing that Aurora Borealis originates around the north pole and that Aurora Australis originates around the south pole. Can they occur simultaneously? and if not, what would it take for it to happen?|||The can and do. In fact, they always do.

This shouldn't come as a surprise, given the symmetry of magnetism (dipole).|||They can and they DO occur simultaneously. Always DO, given the symmetry of magnetism.

BUT, the bigger question is can person A observe one while person B observes the other? And the answer is barely.

Daytime sunlight nearly masks the Aurora's light, given that daylight is MUCH brighter.

AND, given that, except during transitional seasons, the arctic will have the opposite lighting and season of the antarctic regions, this means that a winter in the north is a summer in the south. So, with perpetual night in Finland, and perpetual day in Antarctica, its a bit difficult for the observation in Antarctica, yet it is rather easy to make the observation in Finland.|||As the others have said yes they do occur simultaneously. With winter in the Northern hemisphere the display is spectacular with a black sky back drop. Aurora Australis in the summer the sky is blue and hence the display will not have the contrast therefore will appear fainter|||In fact, they ALWAYS occur simultaneously.|||They always do.|||Yes

Why is the aurora only visible at high latitudes?

Where/ when would be a good place and time to see the aurora?|||The aurora are only visible at high latitudes because that is where the Earth's magnetic field is the strongest, and also where it is most perpendicular to the surface of the Earth.

The aurora tend to be most intense during times of high solar activity. Solar activity waxes and wanes on a roughly eleven year cycle. The last maximum of solar activity was around the year 2000, so the next peak will be sometime around the year 2011. That will be the best time to try and see the aurora.

During times of extremely high solar activity, the (northern) aurora can be seen as far south as the northern US, though they will be more brilliant further north.|||The aurora are most visible in the higher latitudes of both the northern and southern hemisphere. This is where the magnetic poles of the earth lay, the magnetic field is perpendicular to earth surface which directs the charged particles from the sun into the earth's atmosphere. These particles ionized the atmosphere and give the aurora its colors. When the sun is most active i.e. has the most sunspots is when the auroras occur most.

Is it possible for an aurora borealis to show itself in oregon?

Last night, i looked in the sky while walking home from a local festival and the sky was dark. except for this creamy white smear trailing across the sky.

What was it? It truely didnt look like a cloud. Or an aurora either. Maybe imagine a mixture of the two.|||From a fellow Oregonian; yes. Unlikely. Would require an especially active period from the sun, and you wouldn't be the only one noticing...it would make the news. Aurora tend to be green/pink, though other colors are seen. Somehow I think it may have been a cloud.|||it is possible.|||You might be able to see it in Oregon, but, it comes from Alaska and the surrounding area.|||First guess would be that you noticed the Milky Way (thats the galaxy our Sun is in) but the Aurora can be seen a long way South.

Why? What did you think?

Will Britain be able to see an aurora due to the massive explosion on the Sun earlier this weekend?

I heard there was a massive explosion on the Sun and that Britain may be able to see an aurora, is this correct?|||If the CME(Coronal Mass ejection) intersects the earth's orbit there will be Auroras.

In 2004 I observed, from northern Ohio, Auroras that extended to well past directly overhead.

It was a magnificent display of mostly greens with some blues and there was a cyclic pulsation across the whole sky that was almost imperceptable.Unlke the banding seen in the high latitudes it was almost sheetlike and pulsating rapidly only noticable in peripheral vision.Way cool!

In short,YES. If the particle stream hits us head on you could well see Aurorea in Britain.

Look to the north anytime after dark.Better if you are away from city lights to the north.

I live very near Lake Erie so I have almost zero light polution to the north.

Happy skywatching.|||The best place to see aurora in Britain is in the Shetland Islands. Clear, frosty nights are the best time, so you need to look at the weather forecast beforehand, and even then you may not be guaranteed a sighting. Once there, you would have to keep watch, since the aurora can happen in a fleeting moment or last, on and off, for a whole night.

Astroboffins are warning that a mighty "eruption" of superhot plasma has been blasted out of the Sun directly at the Earth. The plasma cloud is expected to reach Earth beginning tomorrow, possibly causing strange phenomena - including a mighty geomagnetic storm which could see the Northern Lights aurorae extend as far south as Blighty or the northern USA.

Are the minimum stats of the Alienware Aurora good for playing World of Warcraft?

There is another problem which is the bouncing cause the rack mount (that connects to the frame) to break and it seems that part is almost impossible to get especially when its an oldsmobile. How is the last week of September to witness the Aurora in Finland? and which city.?

I wanna go to Finalnd between the 18th and 28th of September to take photos and capture the Aurora in the Northern Finland if possible.

I wonder if it's the right time to do that, and if there is any specific city there to go to, to have the best scene.

Wish to get an answer soon|||Actually there are no Aurora Borealis appearing that early in Finland, the best time for viewing them is from November to December when it is dark/cold enough. Besides, you need to go somewhere north enough where the city lights do not ruin the viewing, for example Lapland is a good place.|||Yep, the end of September is too early I believe.

December or January would be ideal (Maybe November also). You need to be above the Arctic Circle (wayyy up in Lapland) and somewhere where the city lights do not obscure the sky view. And you would still need some luck to see them.

How can I get to Buffalo for cheap from East Aurora, NY without a car or taxi?

I am currently living in East Aurora, NY for an internship. I want to go see the falls and go the Galleria mall in Buffalo. I don't have a car or much money for a taxi. What can I do???|||Greyhound bus, hitchhike, walk, bicycle. All these will get you there cheap or free. I would stay home and save money for a car. The falls will still be there and you can live without anything from the mall.|||As a former 18 wheel truck driver, I speak the truth. I know you think I'm kidding, but go out there for a "test-run" and see how many drivers will help you. It helps if you mention your good at spotting "bears". Truck drivers are always looking for bears (the Highway Patrol) because they are most of the time in a rush with a hot load (cargo), and don't want a ticket (VERY expensive).

|||Others have given you links to the Geophysical Institute, they provide a page that gives you the best odds of seeing the aurora, but it is honestly a crap-shoot. Either you see them or you don't, there are high-probability days that the aurora never shows and low-probability days with great lights, so just cross your fingers. September is a decent time, but mid-winter is much better, since there is so much more night hours per day, so your odds go up dramatically.|||Go as far north as you can afford. Fairbanks or farther.

Find a place to stay that has a good view to the North, and is not near a lot of city lights. Better to rent a car and stay in a Bed and Breakfast a little north of Fairbanks, such as Fox Creek B %26amp; B so you can be away from the city and so you can drive at night to look for aurora. Plan to stay up at night. The lights, if they come out, will be in the midnight to 2 a.m. range.

You can check the University of Alaska Geophysical Institute web site for the aurora forecast. As was already mentioned, sun activity has been low and the aurora have not been very active this year.

Travel as close to the end of the month as you can. If possible, go when there is no moon. You can check on www.wunderground.com for when the moon is dark in September.

In case you don't see the aurora, you can see two great indoor presentations in Fairbanks, one downtown at the Lacey Street Theatre Ice Museum and one at the University of Alaska Museum.

As long as you are coming to Alaska, be sure and enjoy your trip. There are many things to see and do. The autumn leaves in September are great. You can drive into Denali National Park and take the park bus to see animals and maybe even Mt. McKinley. You can go on riverboat rides, pan for gold, and breathe the clean air. On the coast, you can sea kayak, see sea otters, and go fishing. Might even get to see a volcanic eruption.

Have fun!|||I am a professional Alaskan aurora photograher. You can see some of my work at www.northpolegallery.com

The aurora is caused by particles from the sun - either sunspot activity or solar flares. Currently, the sun is in a 100 year slump for producing these........ and in the slump of a 11 year cycle - we have had almost no auroras in Alaska this winter. And not many are expected this coming winter.

The only passenger train operates from Fairbanks to Anchorage in the summer during daylight hours.

On my web site you will find links to aurora assets - other sites with information - and I have a 13 page aurora guide in the News Section.

You can email me direct for any other info.

apart on the same road. Aurora starts walking at 3 mph and at the same instant Chris starts walking toward her at 2.2 mph. When will they meet. I just need to know how to set it up.|||I assume you mean they live 4 miles apart, and that they are in a straight-line path to each other.

You can think of this as Aurora is not moving, and Chris is moving towards her at 5.2 mph.

4 miles / 5.2 mph = 10 / 13 hours

Any Aussies using Aurora electricity meters?

I have heard about these pay-as-you-go electricity meters with the company Aurora (in Australia), but never heard of anyone actually using them and was wondering if anyone out there does and do you think it is better than paying a quarterly bill to the electricity companies? How does it work?

Thanks for any relevant answers.|||Yes, it works fine.Aurora is the supplier of electricity in my home State (Tasmania),.The home owner has the option of being connected in the usual manner and being billed quarterly or being connected Pay-as -you-go which simply entails a minor modification to your meter box to allow a credit card type pre- pay card to slip into a slot and the customer simply slips the card into the reader to "top up" top up their account, much the same way as you would use an eftpos or atm. credit is purchased at participating stores (newsagents, government offices, post offices etc) and credited to the "smart card" which is used by the customer in their meter box at home. There is little chance of running out of power as each account is automatically credited with a given amount of emergency power and users are guaranteed not to have the power shut off after hours. Mostly the power usage rate is attached to your hot water tariff so it is usually cheaper usage, but the daily rates vary to the normal , i believe. Some find it useful for their budget as they can pay exactly what they want each pay day on their bill and know what they are expending on their power bill each week, rather than find out at the end of each quarter, The meters have a running tally on them so you know exactly where you are with your usage and how much of your amount is left, so you know exactly when you need to top up and if you have money left or are into the emergency funds.

Although I do not personally use this method, many of my family and friends do and they seem quite happy with it.

If you have seen it please describe where, what colours, what it looked like and how it made you feel.....

I love the Aurora and have seen it mant times...one of my earliest memories was seeing a spectacular red aurora that spread over the sky forming a birdcage effect overhead and all around...Still every time I see it I am awestruck and it takes my breath away with its beauty.|||It is a spectacular sight. The most clear and bright times I have seen it is when I have been in Newfoundland. It appears extremely clear and bright there because of less population and therefore, less man-made light to interfere with the Aurora. I have been blessed to see it in the red, like you described; as well as green and and a blue so deep it almost looks purple. I have also seen it in a blended effect with various colors, moving in waves across the sky. INCREDIBLE!!|||OH! i have seen it a while ago!!!!!!!!!!

It's so lovely and beautiful.|||I saw it when I was a kid. My dad lived out in the country (mid/northeast Ohio), and his friends called us one night pretty late... maybe it was in autumn. They told us to come outside because "something was going on in the sky." I remember it was one of the most beautiful things I've ever seen. It was like a can of paint was being spilled across the sky. Pink would spread across, and then it would splash to blue. I can't remember how long it lasted, but it was incredible. I've never seen it since. I'd love to see it again someday.|||I have seen in the TV. So far I have not visited the polar regions of the earth. This colour display occurs in the sky of polar regions only. This is due to ionic imbalance resulting from the magnetic fields of polar regions. A mixture of colours like green, red, yellow, blue in series are displayed in night sky. It resembles fireworks.|||I saw it on a plane, while flying to anchorage. It was trippy, because I was little and I did not know about the phenomenon. I thoguht it was magic and kept it to myself, thinking I witnessed a miracle or something. Then, I learned about it, and it was kind of a let down. Still pretty cool, nonetheless. It was green.|||I saw it when I lived in Fairbanks, AK.

It was a purple-green curtain, and it looked so close I almost thought it was brushing the tops of the birch trees.|||I grew up North Dakota. There is very little light pollution there and often during the long winter nights, we'd observe the Northern Lights as we'd drive home from Grandma's house. It was a trippy lazy display of ever-changing curtains in hues of teal, purple, and pink. Cool!

His is electric, and he thinks the installer wont need a permit for it and he wont have to have it inspected. Will the installer need a permit for him and will he have to have it inspected?|||If you just like throwing money away you can, or if you don't trust your installer you may want to. I have been installing water heaters for 20 years and never once have pulled a permit. They sell water heaters at every hardware store, Lowe's and Home Depot. It is a very simple task and any city will tell you a permit is required because they want the revenue. If you have money you just want to throw away like that please contact me because I could use it worse than the city.|||Previous answer was incorrect. You did need a permit and so does he. I assume you bought the water heater from a company like sears, lowes, home depot, etc, and they have a company come out and install it. If so, then yes, a permit is required for both, and both have to be inspected.|||in texas where i live, most communities make you pull a permit to replace a water heater. HOWEVER, most folks don't. down here, most licensed plumbers don't even pull permits and certainly us homeowners don't. best advice is get rid of the old water heater asap, ie, don't set it at the curb where inspectors may see it. (that's on the cool. i didnt say that.)|||No. You didn't need one either.
