How do you create an Aurora effect in photoshop?

Id like to create a futuristic aurora effect in photoshop. The kind of thing im looking to do is a space theme. Stars and futuristic lines etc. Id also like to add a picture of myself in it. Take a look at the back of Adam Lamberts album cover.





Thanks|||It all has to do with alternating between blues, purples, and blacks and knowing when to blur and when to make solid changes in color. One suggestion would be to draw out lighter colors like whites, duplicate the layer, and then blur one of the two so you can still see the solid colors in the back...
